As part of the ongoing acquisition programme on behalf of Wickes, we identified Ashby de la Zouche as a town which had potential for a new Wickes store, as it had no existing DIY representation.
Two sites were identified with separate developers seeking to achieve non food planning consent on both. Once it became clear only one site would achieve consent, we entered into negotiations with the developer for a standalone DIY store of 25,000 sq ft.
In the latter stages of the negotiations, a competitor tried to unseat the deal and due to our negotiation skills, we ensured contracts were successfully exchanged at a rental of £16.00 per sq ft for a unit of 25,000 sq ft.
The unit opened for trade in August 2009 and has been an extremely successful addition to Wickes’ store portfolio
